Is SailQuiz free?
SailQuiz is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. The free plan includes one full quiz and three Daily Challenge rounds per day, plus spaced-repetition review, streaks, and progress tracking. An optional Premium subscription unlocks unlimited quizzes and challenges across every course.
Do I need an account?
No. SailQuiz has no accounts, no login, and no sign-up. You can start studying the moment the app opens. Your progress is stored privately on your device.
Which devices does SailQuiz support?
SailQuiz runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 15.1 or later, with a layout designed for both), on Android phones and tablets via Google Play, and on Apple silicon Macs through the App Store.
Does SailQuiz work offline?
Yes. All courses, questions, explanations, and images are bundled with the app, and your progress lives on your device — you can study with no signal at all. Only purchases, restoring purchases, and anonymous usage analytics need a connection.
Courses & content
What can I study in SailQuiz?
SailQuiz includes 2,800+ practice questions across five quiz courses: Sailing Foundations, Basic Keelboat Theory (US-oriented), Day Skipper Theory, Marine Radio (SRC/VHF), and Kitesurfing Foundations. Topics span COLREGS and right-of-way, navigation and buoyage, lights and shapes, tides, sail trim, knots, weather, anchoring, docking, safety, and radio procedures.
Is SailQuiz an official ASA, US Sailing, or RYA course?
No. SailQuiz is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the ASA, US Sailing, the RYA, the USCG, or any other certifying body, and it is not a substitute for their official training or examinations. It covers the same theory topics those courses teach, so many sailors use it alongside official instruction.
I found an error in a question
We take accuracy seriously. Use the contact form below or email [email protected] with the course name, module, and the question in question. We'll review and correct it in an app update.
How does new content arrive?
Course content is bundled with the app, so new and improved questions arrive through regular app updates from the App Store or Google Play.
Subscriptions & billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, not by SailQuiz directly. On iPhone or iPad: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → SailQuiz. On Android: Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → SailQuiz. You keep Premium access until the end of the current billing period.
I bought Premium but it's not active on my device
Open SailQuiz, go to Settings, and tap "Restore purchases" (the same option appears at the bottom of the paywall). Make sure you're signed in to the Apple ID or Google account used for the original purchase. If it still doesn't appear, email us with your purchase receipt or transaction ID.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID that was charged. Refunds for Google Play purchases are handled through Google Play's order history or Google support. If you believe something is wrong with the app itself, email [email protected] and we'll help investigate.
I bought the old one-time-purchase version of the app
You keep Premium access at no extra cost. The current version detects your original App Store receipt and automatically grants permanent Premium — no subscription needed. If it isn't recognised, tap "Restore purchases" while signed in to the original Apple ID.
What should I include when reporting a billing issue?
Please include: the Apple ID or Google account email used to purchase, the approximate purchase date, the plan you selected, your app version (visible in Settings), and — if possible — the store transaction ID or order number from your receipt email.
Progress & devices
Where is my progress stored?
All progress — quiz results, mastery, streaks, XP, and review schedule — is stored locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and there is no account to sync.
Can I transfer progress to a new phone?
Not currently. Because SailQuiz keeps everything on-device with no accounts, progress does not transfer between devices. Your Premium subscription, however, follows your Apple ID or Google account and can be restored on a new device with "Restore purchases".
Will deleting the app delete my progress?
Yes. Progress lives inside the app's local storage, so deleting the app removes it. Reinstalling starts fresh (your subscription can always be restored).
Privacy & analytics
What data does the app collect?
SailQuiz collects a small set of anonymous product analytics (such as onboarding steps viewed, paywall viewed, and purchases completed) along with app version and platform, processed by PostHog, plus subscription status via RevenueCat. It does not collect your name, email, quiz answers, scores, precise location, or contacts — there is no account to attach them to.
How do I contact you about privacy?
Email [email protected] for privacy questions or data-subject requests, or [email protected] for general support. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
