How it works
- Mobile-first and offline. Every course, question, explanation and illustration ships inside the app for iPhone, iPad and Android. No signal is needed to study.
- No account. No account, no login; progress is stored on your device. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to.
- Free to start. The free plan includes one full quiz and 3 Daily Challenge rounds a day, with review and progress tracking. An optional Premium subscription removes the daily limits.
- Built to remember. Missed questions return on a spaced-repetition schedule, and module scores help you choose what to study next. They do not certify exam readiness.
How the content is checked
- Written from the source. Questions and guides are checked against the COLREGs text, the IALA Maritime Buoyage System (R1001), official chart-symbol references, and the published RYA and ASA syllabus outlines. Each guide and quiz lists its sources and the date of its last review.
- Educational diagrams are code-based. Interactive light, buoyage and encounter diagrams use explicit geometry and labels. Editorial checks can still miss errors; we do not claim instructor review or official approval.
- Regions are flagged. Buoyage differs between IALA Region A and Region B, and syllabuses differ between schemes; pages say which one they follow.
- Mistakes get fixed. If you find one, tell us and we will check it against the source.
What SailQuiz is not
SailQuiz is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, accredited by, or otherwise connected to the ASA, US Sailing, the RYA, the USCG, or any other certifying body, and it is not a substitute for their official training or examinations.
Nothing here replaces time on the water with an instructor, the current regulations, charts, tide tables and almanac for the waters you sail, or the assessment run by your training centre.
