SailQuiz is a sailing theory app for iPhone, iPad and Android, with short quizzes, explanations and smart review. The current content library includes 2,800+ questions; the latest iOS release also includes COLREGs Interactive. Android course availability may differ.

SailQuiz is free to download. The free plan includes one full quiz and three Daily Challenge rounds per day across every course, plus smart review, streaks, XP, and progress tracking. An optional Premium subscription removes the daily limits.

Premium unlocks unlimited quizzes and unlimited Daily Challenges across all 2,800+ questions. Spaced-repetition review, streaks, stats, the glossary, and course browsing are free for everyone. Premium is a subscription billed by Apple or Google.

No SailQuiz account or login is required. Study progress is stored on your device. The app uses anonymous product analytics, which can include scores and mastery levels; local progress storage does not mean no usage data is transmitted.

Learning content ships inside the app and works offline. Purchases, restores, subscription-status refreshes and usage analytics use a connection.

iPhone and iPad (the current listing requires iOS/iPadOS 15.1 or later) and Android. Apple lists the app as not verified for macOS, so we do not recommend treating it as a Mac app. Check your local store for device compatibility.

The latest iOS content has six courses and 70 modules: COLREGs Interactive, Sailing Foundations, Basic Keelboat Theory, Day Skipper Theory, Marine Radio SRC and Kitesurfing Foundations. The new interactive course is confirmed on iOS; check the Android app’s course list for availability.

SailQuiz schedules each question you answer using spaced repetition: questions you miss come back sooner, and questions you know keep moving further out. You spend your time on what you haven't mastered yet instead of re-reading what you already know.

Yes. Illustrated questions cover topics including buoys, lights, chart details and boat handling. Counts and illustrations can change with app updates.

No. SailQuiz is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the ASA, US Sailing, the RYA, the USCG, or any other certifying body, and it does not replace their official training or examinations. It covers the same theory those programs teach, so it works well alongside them.

No. SailQuiz handles the theory so your time on the water counts. Practical skills — helming, trimming, docking under power — need a boat and an instructor.

SailQuiz is currently available in English.

Quiz history, mastery, streaks and the review schedule are stored locally, with no SailQuiz account sync. Usage analytics can include scores and mastery. Deleting the app can remove your progress. Restore eligible purchases through the same Apple or Google account; restoring access does not restore study history.

The app uses PostHog for product analytics and RevenueCat for purchases under an anonymous identifier. Usage events can include quiz scores and mastery levels. See the Privacy Policy for the data categories, providers and controls.
