Troubleshooting
ArcoMeter can't access my location / GPS
ArcoMeter needs location access to show your speed and record trips. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, make sure Location Services is on, then find ArcoMeter and set it to “While Using the App”. To keep a recording running while the screen is locked, choose “Always” and keep Precise Location enabled. After changing this, reopen ArcoMeter.
My speed reading looks inaccurate
GPS speed is an estimate and can vary by a few units, especially at low speed, when you first start moving, or when the signal is weak. For best results, use the app with a clear view of the sky and give the GPS a few seconds to settle. If the displayed speed is consistently a little high or low compared with your vehicle, you can apply a small calibration offset in Settings — note this only adjusts the on-screen display and does not change the raw recorded data. ArcoMeter is not a certified speed instrument; always rely on your vehicle’s official instruments.
I see a “Weak GPS signal” warning
This means your device currently has a poor or unstable GPS fix. It is common in tunnels, car parks, dense city streets, indoors, or under heavy tree cover, and can also be affected by weather. Move to a more open area, wait a few seconds for the signal to recover, and make sure nothing is blocking the device. Speed and route accuracy improve once a stronger fix is acquired.
Recording won't start or stops unexpectedly
First make sure location access is granted. For recordings to continue when the screen is off or the app is in the background, ArcoMeter needs the “Always” location permission (see the location question above). Also check that a recording isn’t already in progress, that Low Power Mode isn’t aggressively limiting background activity, and that your device has a usable GPS fix when you start.
Exporting a trip as GPX or CSV doesn't work
Open a saved trip, tap Export, then choose GPX or CSV. ArcoMeter prepares the file and opens your device’s share sheet, where you pick a destination (for example Files, Mail, or Messages). If the share sheet doesn’t appear, give it a moment after tapping a format — the app waits for the export menu to close before opening the share sheet. Make sure the trip actually contains GPS points; very short or signal-less recordings may have little to export. The list of share destinations depends on the apps installed on your device.
How does HUD mirror mode work?
HUD (heads-up display) mirror mode flips the speed readout horizontally so that, when you place the phone flat on the dashboard, the reflection in your windshield reads the right way around. Toggle HUD from the speed screen. You can choose “Mirror” (for the windshield reflection) or “Normal” (un-mirrored) in Settings. Only use a HUD setup safely and legally, and never adjust it while driving.
How do I change units or the display?
In Settings you can switch the speed unit between km/h, mph, knots, and m/s, set an optional overspeed alert, adjust the dial’s maximum, choose a screen-orientation preference, and set the speed-calibration offset. All of these are saved on your device.
How do I delete my trips or all my data?
Delete an individual trip by swiping it in the history list, or use the delete action on the trip’s detail screen. ArcoMeter stores trips locally on your device, so deleting the app removes its trips and settings. Anonymous analytics can be turned off in Settings and does not include routes, GPS coordinates, or trip names.
